Society has this idea that when you’ve been abused, the abuse is so painful that you can’t talk about it. I’ve had people tell me that if I can talk about and admit that I was raped then it obviously wasn’t that bad.
At the same time, society says if you keep it a secret then obviously you’re lying because if you really were hurt then you’d speak out straight away. Most keep their abuse secret for ages.
What ever your reaction is after something so traumatic – your reaction is yours and there is never a wrong reaction.
